Sports Trading Diary Entry 3 150312 Part Two

Sports Trading Diary Entry update for Thursday 15th March 2012

This is an update to my earlier sports trading diary entry today. Everything I’ve ever said about not having any luck on the horses is wrong! Today three of my £1 each way accumulators came in…

I had two ‘threefold’ each way accumulators come in on the 2.40, 3.20 and 4.00 at Cheltenham. One was straight winners and the other was a 2nd place and two winners.

I then added the 4.40 and picked Sunnyhillboy as my fourth horse. By 4.00 I had already won two threefolds and was just over 50 quid up, I waited for the 4.40 to see what would happen with my fourfold!

Here’s an image of my hand written sports trading diary showing the football matches for the day and my trades up to the point of the last race coming in whilst I was busy trading football matches. If you click the image below, it will open up a larger version, which is easier to read.

Football Trading Journal

I had written the race details and combinations on the right margin in the morning after printing off the day’s football fixtures.

You can click the image to make it bigger so you can see my notes for the day; basically it’s my daily print off of a spread sheet showing the day’s football matches.

I hand write details of any profit or losses on any trades I make during the day, to keep a running tally of what I’m up to.

I have a rubbish memory, so hand writing the info down as it happens is how I keep track of things. Especially if I have any open trades, I use a highlighter pencil to keep track of those, or potential matches that I am looking at for a particular scenario to play out.

Any way, I had been busy doing my usual daily stuff – I work from home and so find time to trade in my home office around doing other work related stuff.

I admitted in my first post of the day in my football trading diary that I was going to be having a flutter on the horses at Cheltenham; that I was intending to take out of today’s running Bet Fair bank total to put on several small accumulator bets for the day.

I generally put on small stake each way accumulators as a way of keeping an interest in what’s going on during the day at the race meetings that I’m watching. Of course, if an accumulator comes off, then you’re quids in, but usually they don’t!

I took a screen shot just as I placed the each way trio on, but forgot to take one for the fourfold cause I was on the phone doing work stuff at the time; but of course I have screen shots of them coming in, showing the display on my computer monitor.

As you can imagine, I was pretty excited when the trio came in. I actually got it twice as I backed two different horses for the 14.40. I backed Albertas Run, Big Bucks and Salut Flo in one, so got an each way return on that one as Albertas came in 2nd at the 14.40.

I also placed another with Riverside Theatre, Big Bucks and Salut Flo. This one came in with straight winners.

My heart started pounding as I waited for the trio accumulator to be added to my Bet Fair bank total and I was wondering how I’d go about explaining the big jump of profit in my daily football trading journal – after only keeping an online football trading diary for a couple of days, it would be pretty difficult to explain

Of course though, by that point I was pretty pleased with myself; as for once in a while these accumulator bets do come off and I watched my Bet Fair bank total (once all was settled ticked) round from £119.35 to £199.02 for those two trio’s for a punt of a couple of quid on each.

But obviously as I’d already admitted that I was going to be having a flutter, I suppose you’d understand the deficit the next day due to my stupidity - it’s the profit that’s difficult to explain and this profit, although now in my football trading bank was not obtained by football trading; oh no, it was obtained by having a flutter on the gee-gees.

It was at this point I suppose that I suddenly remembered that I also had a £1 each way fourfold that I’d placed on Riverside Theatre, Big Bucks, Salut Flo and Sunnyhillboy.

My heart then jumped to my throat, as I could remember that one of the accumulator bets that I had put on, had showed a potential return of £29,000 and odd in loose change! I checked on the odds for Sunnyhillboy and saw that he was just favourite / join favourite for this race, and that the return if he came home would be more in the region of £400.00 and loose change, but still it was £400 and loose change more than I had.

I already had won two each way trio’s, surely my luck couldn’t hold for a fourfold as well? I’m usually not that lucky so I wouldn’t have put any money on me coming up trumps with this one.

As you can see from the screen shot (you can click it and it will open up a picture that’s bigger and easier to see) whilst all of this was going on, I still had my teeth into a few football trades and was busy ‘greening up’ on a couple of them, whilst I attempted to keep calm and listen to TimeForm radio!

I was also checking the results on Racing UK my wife was coming in and out of the office with the kids, as they’d just come back home from the school run. I could hardly contain my excitement about the trio, let alone the potential of a fourfold, but I didn’t let on; I wanted to wait, as the final race (and more impressive fourfold if it came off) would start after they left for the kid’s martial arts class.

So there I was, sitting in my office listening to TimeForm Radio and attempting to judge the delay in the radio broadcast against the odds I could see fluctuating on Bet Fair.

The 4:40 was a long race, over 3 miles I think. In any case, it seemed to take forever, and whilst Sunnyhillboy was being mentioned in the trailing pack, it wasn’t until pretty close to the end of the race that he started to make his move.

The Betfair odds started to shorten for him as he closed on the leaders and then after that I can’t really remember too much. I think they got to two fences to go and then Sunnyhillboy really started to show.

I knew at that point that I had at least got a place with Sunnhillboy and was starting to get pleased with myself. When I finally heard the result, it was then just a case of waiting for the money to show in my Bet Fair bank and to tell my missus of my good fortune…

BetFair 150312

You can rest assured as you look at the last picture in today’s series, that my wife wanted half of my betting bank and has left me with a little over £300.00.

I have taken this shot to show the money sitting in my Bet Fair trading account before the withdrawal was made back to my bank account.

It’s only fair I suppose. I had withdrawn my initial BetFair bank from my account and now it was being paid back with a little interest. It does of course leave me with a larger bank by nearly 3 times than what I had yesterday, so hopefully I will be able to build it up again quickly.

I can’t see myself doing many of the evening matches tonight, so I would imagine that tomorrow’s daily sports trading diary will start with an announcement about my new trading bank and my good fortune at Cheltenham!
